Community Health Worker Training Program

The Northeast PA AHEC offers the accredited CHW training program. This program is designed to provide the core competencies needed for work in community-based, inpatient or other healthcare settings. Once training is complete, CHWs are eligible to apply for credentialing through the state of Pennsylvania.

  • All course fees and materials

  • CPR/First Aid Certification

  • Mental Health First Aid Certification

  • Joining the CHW Collaborative Community for ongoing education and support

**Payment guidelines are provided when your registration is accepted for the course. Payment is not required at the time of application, but is required to reserve your spot in a training session once your application has been accepted. 

In-Person Training 

  • Course times and site will be determined prior to the start of the program

Virtual Training 

  • Live courses will take place via Zoom or Webex

  • Course times will be determined prior to the start of the program 

Hybrid

  • A mix between in-person and virtual training may take place depending on the demand and location of participants

Virtual IT Requirements

  • Computer OR tablet ​

  • Internet connection

  • Internal or External Video Camera, speakers, and/or headphones​

*Courses taught virtual or hybrid will have a how-to guide on using Zoom or Webex.

Community Health Worker Information Sessions

FREE Information sessions are provided to give an overview of the CHW training classes and provides time to answer questions that arise. During this time we will:

​

  • Discuss the accredited training program designed to provide the core competencies needed for work in community based and inpatient settings

  • outline the process for state certification as a CHW in Pennsylvania

  • plenty of time for Q & A's

​

Info sessions are meant to be a two-way conversation. While we hope to impart some info around the CHW training program, we equally want this to be a time and opportunity to touch on what you feel is important for your neighborhood and community, and how a CHW can help bridge the gaps and address health disparities you maybe noticing.
